Rugby

Rugby is a team sport that originated in England in the early 19th century. It is played with an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with the objective of scoring points by carrying the ball across the opposing team’s goal line or kicking it through their goalposts. Rugby has two main variations: Rugby Union and Rugby League, each with its own distinct rules and number of players.

In Rugby Union, teams consist of 15 players and the game is played in two halves of 40 minutes each. In Rugby League, teams have 13 players and the game is divided into two halves of 40 minutes as well. The sport is characterized by physical contact, strategic play, and varied scoring methods, including tries, conversions, penalty goals, and drop goals.

Rugby is known for its emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for opponents and officials. It has a rich history and is played at both amateur and professional levels around the world, with major competitions such as the Rugby World Cup and various domestic leagues.
